Simplified Rules for 8-Ball

Balls 1-15 are racked in the triangle with the 8-ball in the middle, a stripe in one back corner and a solid in the other back corner.  Balls are broken.
No matter what happens on the break, the shooter still has his/her choice of playing solids (balls 1-7) or stripes (balls 9-15).  The first player to pocket a called solid or striped ball is then committed to those balls for the remainder of the game.  After a player has pocketed all his object balls, he then shoots at the 8-ball, calling his intended pocket first.  If he misses, the game continues, if he succeeds, he wins.
Simplified Rules for 9-Ball

Balls 1-9 are racked in the triangle in a diamond shape, with the 9-ball in the middle and the 1-ball at the top or front. Balls are broken. As long as the shooter made contact with the 1-ball, any and all pocketed balls are good, and he/she continues to shoot (always at the lowest numbered ball). When all the balls are pocketed in rotation, the player who sinks the 9-ball wins.  If the 9-ball is pocketed on the break, the shooter wins.
